All doors and windows of your property offers an opportunity to a burglar who wants to enter your property. Following this advice may help to prevent such entry.

These devices act as a deterrent, but in addition it would be preferable to fit an alarm system which is monitored so when operated action can be taken. Please click here for details about Vigilant’s alarm system.

Basic rules on protecting your property

When buying a villa or apartment always change the entrance & exit door locks as you have no idea who has copies of your keys, i.e. builders, cleaners, gardeners, pool cleaners, etc. are usually given keys and you can not be sure if you receive all keys back.

When leaving your villa or aparment unattended make arrangements with a friend or a key holder to regularly visit your property. Periodically leave a light on or consider buying a timer for a floor lamp.

Display stickers warning that security devices are fitted.

Change the code of any alarms as soon as you move in and only give out keys and alarm details to people you trust. Regularly changing your alarm code and ensuring spare copies of keys are returned is also vital. It is imperative not to store keys in seemingly safe places such as under doormats.

Adding alarms, door chains, spy holes, and top/bottom bolts will also boost security, while sensor lights or dusk-to-dawn lighting deters intruders and help you gain access to your home late at night.

When you are leaving your property unoccupied for a long period of time. Inform Security so that they are aware the property is unoccupied. Please remember to inform them when you return.

It is also important to check the locks on your windows and make sure you consider emergency escape routes when you are positioning furniture or installing new windows and doors.

In the garden make sure all tools and ladders are safely stored away in locked garages and sheds and cut back any bushes or hedges that obstruct view and burglars could hide behind.

The sticky-back window contact alarm can be easily attached to UPVC Windows/Patio Doors and set & un-set with an on/off button. When set, any break of contacts will activate the audible alarm to deter intruders & alert neighbours etc.

The sticky-back window vibration contact alarm can be easily attached to UPVC Windows/Patio Doors and set & un-set with an on/off button. When set, any movement detected by the alarm (when windows/doors are forced, banged etc) this will activate the vibration audible alarm to deter intruders & alert neighbours etc. with its alarm siren. This alarm is especially good to affix to the GLASS – which comes with a sticker on the reverse (sticky side) which is visible to the intruder from the outside of the premises.

This contact alarm (see photos below) can be placed where a ‘typical’ alarm contact would be placed (in the high corner of a room, near the ceiling) You can arm the contact by using the arm/disarm contact fob (attached to your keys or hidden in the room – whichever is preferred) The contact will alarm once the contact has been picked-up in the direct angle that the contact is facing.

This contact alarm (see photos below) can be placed where a ‘typical’ smoke alarm contact would be placed (in the high ceiling of the centre of a room) You can arm the contact by using the arm/disarm contact fob (attached to your keys or hidden in the room – whichever is preferred) The contact will alarm once the contact has been sensed, this will sense it through a 360 degree angle.

This is a dummy alarm (see photos below), which will put off intruders into thinking you have a house wired alarm system. This will put off intruders, as house wired alarm systems are monitored and will usually alert a local monitoring company/police once the alarm has been activated.
